JOB PURPOSE

Do you want to join a growing energy economics team and make an impact on some of the most pressing issues affecting the energy, infrastructure, sustainability and resources sectors, in MENA and globally?

APICORP is a multilateral development bank. Its vision is to be the financial partner of choice of energy and energy-‎related companies, both public and private and the leading source of research on ‎MENA energy, sustainability and resources.

The Strategy, Energy Economics & Sustainability department is a new and growing team of young and ambitious professionals. Their expertise and work cover the entire energy spectrum including the gas and petrochemicals industries, oil markets, , the electricity and renewables sectors, alongside energy-intensive industries and energy services as well as macroeconomics, policy and finance trends.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of a cross- functional team contributing to APICORP’s credit and investment decisions as well as the overall corporate strategy, you will contribute through:

  • Undertaking and owning relevant economic and energy research and drafting clear, crisp and high standards commentaries and analyses
  • Contributing to the company’s flagship products, the Annual Energy Investment Outlook and the sectors’ outlooks (oil, gas and petrochemicals, electricity)
  • Developing own sector’s industry analysis/area of expertise and contributing to sector’s strategies, in addition to specific country strategies, policy analysis and risks
  • Evaluating and monitoring the sustainability and development impact of projects and company activities
  • Present the company’s intelligence at relevant events, build effective interactions with industry/government contacts and support the Department’s partnerships and research projects

Key words: Energy economics, energy outlooks, analytical skills, econometrics, sustainability impact analysis, energy (oil, gas, electricity) markets, energy services, energy-intensive industries.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

The candidate will be working in a dynamic, cross-functional team and contributing to the work of most of the key business units in APICORP.

He/she will need to possess/develop a strategic view of parts of the energy value chain and a proven ability to influence investment/policy decisions through fact-based analysis and thorough expertise.

A driven and motivated individual, he/she is expected to take ownership of his area of expertise, constantly update his/her knowledge and meaningfully contribute to the Department’s strategy and mandate.

Academic Background

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance or other relevant area with strong analytical skills
  • Specialization in energy is a plus

Professional Background

  • At least two to eight years’ relevant experience in energy (economics, technical or policy work) with a good understanding of emerging/advanced markets’ energy, geopolitics and investment climate
  • Excellent writing skills, capable of producing high-quality impactful analytical and research documents, and summarizing complex material clearly for a variety of audiences
  • Experience in the use of macroeconomic or energy data and quantitative analysis, with great attention to detail.
  • Experience in forecasting and outlooks or in a financial institution is a plus.
  • Experience on the MENA/emerging markets energy sector and/or fundamentals is a plus
  • Interest in/exposure to sustainability/development impact assessments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the drive to work effectively in a multicultural and dynamic team

Tools

  • Excellent level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point and Publisher
  • Working knowledge of econometric tools and models

Languages

  • Excellent English writing. Previous energy-related written material will be requested.
  • Good presentation and communications skills
  • Fluency in Arabic is an advantage
